My name is Benjamin 'Ben' Chung (he/him). I am a linguist who works with Indigenous communities on language revitalization and documentation initiatives. I am from a mixed Korean & Ashkenazi Jewish background. I am also traditionally adopted by the Reid family of Wágḷísla (Bella Bella).
I am currently an MA student in Linguistics (thesis-based) at Simon Fraser University (SFU).
In 2020, I graduated from the University of British Columbia (UBC) with a BA in First Nations & Endangered Languages and Linguistics.
My research partnerships and relationships are primarily with communities on the central coast: from north Vancouver Island to Lax Kxeen (Prince Rupert).
I am interested in morphology & its interfaces (i.e., morphophonology, morpho-syntax) and dialect variation in under-documented and endangered languages. I research how dialectal differences are perceived and measured by speakers (i.e., perceptual dialectology) in these speech communities.
